Breaking the stigma
15 Jan 2026

Lana Stengert was diagnosed with hearing loss at the age of ten.
“One day I went up to my mom and said, I can’t hear anyone in the classroom. I remember feeling shocked — because there’s this stereotype that only elderly people need hearing aids. That’s where a lot of the stigma comes from,” Lana explains.
Over time, the stigma took its toll, and Lana stopped wearing her hearing aids altogether. It wasn’t until later that she felt ready to give them another try.
Today, she’s confident, ambitious, and refuses to let hearing loss define her. “She just wants to be Lana — not Lana wearing a hearing aid,” says her mother, Riina Stengert.
At WSA, we’re committed to breaking stigma. That’s why we design and manufacture innovative hearing solutions that deliver wonderful sound for anyone with hearing loss — so more people, like Lana, can regain the joy of hearing.
